DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
What is DBT?
This is a structured, evidence-based therapy that can help you manage intense emotions.
It was originally designed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), but I have found that using some of the tenets of DBT have been effective for finding the balance of accepting yourself as you are while making positive changes.
What will we work on in therapy?
Some of the things we will work on in Dialectical Behavior Therapy are:
Mindfulness. Cultivating an awareness of the present moment and reducing judgmental thinking.
Distress Tolerance. Developing skills to better manage intense emotions.
Emotional Regulation. Learning to understand, manage, and express your emotions in a healthier way.
Interpersonal Effectiveness. Improving communication skills so you can assert your needs in healthy and productive ways. Using DBT can help you manage life’s challenges with greater resilience and balance.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
— Carl Rogers
